I debated whether or not to pos
t anything today. A few reasons. First, because of the current set-up it’s a pain to actually sit down and type anything at the computer without a chair (Saturday) and the wife is sitting at her desk using her chair… so I’m stuck. I ordered and received a desk last week and so I spent last weekend re-arranging the living room (and then the bedroom too, in order to get enough space for a baby bed in there eventually). The arrangement left me hanging out though until my chair comes. The second reason is because I wanted to post about the care package I got from my sister yesterday filled with goodies galore, but I was stumped as to how to best photograph it. Totally uninspired. I’ll get around to it eventually though. Anyway, I ponied up and here we are. I’ll write about what I did today, it was fairly interesting to me at least… I need a beer, hold on.
Today the wife and I headed down the line about 4 stops to 蒲田 to hit up the ward office (区役所) because before the end of the year (sweet! just got the chair from the wife!) the wife and I went down there to apply for her to change her name, and today was the day that we got that all finalized. She’s officially an *****! Welcome to the family baby! The main reason was because of the Japanese family register system (戸籍), when the baby is born, he wouldn’t be able to have my name (is at least what I understand) and that’s not acceptable! I never asked the wife to take my name, I suggested hyphenating it, but she decided to go full-bore. Hopefully she will be the first one to give us a good name…here’s what the wife looks like (with her Christmas earmuffs) waiting:
After the ward office, we hopped back on the train and got off at our old station, Yukigaya-Otsuka (雪ヶ谷大塚) because we needed to go to the big police office so the wife could change her name on her driver’s license and mornin also wanted to go to the post office so she could return some new year’s post cards she messed up for some stamps (man, this is really riveting stuff isn’t it!)… The highlight of the stop was however, Soul Food! When we lived in Yukigaya, Soul Food was the spot. And when I used to do the scrumped blog, Soul Food was the highest scoring restaurant reviewed. I love the place! We’ve been meaning to go for some time but other plans, or timing always seemed to get in the way. Today, the planets aligned. Since the picture I took of my food looks remarkably like the one on Scrumped, I’ll throw up a pic of the outside (this time during the day) and a pic of the wife’s chosen lunch, eggplant and bell pepper curry (ナスとピーマンカレー 800円).
That’s what I did today. Now that it’s all out there… sorry to waste your time… the wife’s sitting on the couch, trying to eat sunflower seeds (in the shell), part of the care package, it’s got to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen her do. Didn’t realize how difficult that task is until I tried to teach someone how to do it…
