This is how Ghetto Phrisbee Golph is played!
Amongst the cars and electric poles and fences. Today, the weather turned out much, much better than the forecast had purported it would be earlier this week and I thought it the perfect chance to get out and at least test out the feasibility of actually playing a round of GPG this coming Golden Week. The wife and I set out with baby to check out the first three planned holes and then have lunch and do some grocery shopping. I had originally plotted the course and assigned a par based on an average of one stroke per 100 ft. or so but after trying the first three holes, I basically doubled it. I tried to plan them using the average of 4 “strokes” like real golf but it was just impossible. The whole 18 now has a par of 168 and I wouldn’t be surprised if we go way over par.
I learned some important info on today’s trial run. First, it’s pretty difficult to “let ‘er rip” when you’re in a narrow street and trying not to hit anything and that causes the number of throws, and par, to go pretty high. Also I learned that the big frisbees that I bought are actually better suited to being putters than drivers. The little one seemed to have been able to go further (maybe because of less holes) and much better for the narrow streets. The big frisbee was great when trying to hit the skinny poles and such that act as the “cup.”
During the trial run I only hit a couple walls and lost one frisbee over a wall (I was able to get it back) but on a test hole to the convenience store in the evening I hit a parked car… Luckily, no one was around to see it. I’m psyched to play a real round next week!
