The wife is a silly little thing…

April 21, 2010

There’s a strange wind blowing through my apartment right now and its name is “Japanese Drama.” This might be only the second time I’ve ever been in the room while a J-drama has played since I was a University student here.  I think it’s the first time the wife has ever intentionally watched a J-drama.  For one thing, the wife never really sets out to watch TV (except the news) and probably only watches it because they are programs that I like and she enjoys watching with me.

Well, that sucks…

I wrote this whole post and then somewhere we had a hiccup and I lost everything after that first part.  In summary I said:

The name of the drama is “Mother” and you can guess why she’s interested in it,  Japanese dramas suck (and gave a bunch of reasons) and I don’t think there is a “good” one, most US dramas suck too (but there are some I would call good), I watched a couple of J-dramas when I was a student for listening practice and did find entertainment in them at times, and then blah blah blah blah.

Finally, I said:

If this “Mother” drama is on every week, Wednesday at 10pm, I’ll be fine because I’ll normally be on my way home at this time and won’t have to watch it.

TV

January 16, 2010

The National Geographic show “Locked Up Abroad” is awesome!  If you’ve got Sky Perfect or 光テレビ here in Japan, it’s called “史上最悪の地球の歩き方.”  If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend it.  The basic premise of the show is that people are arrested in foreign countries, sometimes of their own fault, sometimes not.  What they do is have the person tell the story of what happened, and they are usually really good at giving details and building tension.  While the story narration is played,  their are very well done reenactments showing the events told in the story, interspersed with up close, dramatic shots of the story teller.  It’s quite good.  Watch it, it’s on now!
